“Energy Cooperation in the Western Hemisphere: Benefits and Obstacles”

The last Wednesday 13 of December, jointly with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the Dialogue carried out a debate table to speak about the subject "Energy Cooperation in the Western Hemisphere: Benefits and Obstacles " .

The encounter took place in the Ramella Hall, in the 4th. Floor of the Senators Chambers Annex of the H. Congress of the Nation (ex- National Box of Saving), and were headed by Dr. Sidney Weintraub.

Dr. Weintraub holds the William E. Simon Chair in Political Economy at CSIS. He is also professor emeritus at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs of the University of Texas at Austin. A member of the U.S. Foreign Service from 1949 to 1975, Dr. Weintraub held the post of deputy assistant secretary of state for international finance and development from 1969 to 1974 and assistant administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development in 1975. He has also been a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.

The meeting counted with the participation of specialists from the public and private field, legislators, representatives of the armed forces and civil employees; all which debated on different problems that the energy field have in the national, regional and hemispheric level.

Special reference received the supply problems of natural gas and oil; as also the political, investment, transport and infrastructure difficulties that affect the region.
