"Case Law and Judicial Efficacy"

On July 3rd and 4th the Dialogue, and the Embassy of the United States of America, hosted, in the context of the seventh year of the Embassy´s Program “Justice Undergoing Change” a two day speaker program on the topic “Case Law and Judicial Efficacy” with the presentation of US Speaker Hon. Bohdan A. Futey, Judge of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.

Judge Futey is member of the United States Court of Federal Claims, one of the most important of that country; which is in charge of cases against the United States that demands monetary compensation for damages, disputes on federal contracts, "illegal appropriations" of property deprived on the part of the federal government and other reclamations against that country.

Besides his functions in the Court, Judge Futey is also involved with programs on Democratization and Rule of Law of the Department of State, the School of Lawyers of the United States and the Judicial Conference of that country. Based on those issues, he has worked in Russia and the Ukraine; and in the last country he was a consultant of the working group that designed the Constitution.

Among other subjects, in Buenos Aires, Judge Futey explained the main characteristics of the Common Law System and the tools currently used by the U.S. courts to achieve efficacy through leadership, case management, court administration, alternative dispute resolution and technology.

The Program included lectures, round tables and meetings and was organized in cooperation with the Supreme Court of Justice of Argentina, Association of Judges and Judicial Officials of the National Judiciary, Libra Foundation, Austral University, International Judicial Academy, University of Belgrano, and the University of Buenos Aires, among other institutions.
