"Challenges on Human Rights for the Obama Administration"
Tuesday 9 of December we had the honor to carry out a conference on the subject of the next presidency of Obama and the problems and opportunities that could face in questions of Human rights.
The meeting had as main speaker the Dr. Allida Black, it was developed in the facilities of the Argentine Council for the International Relations, and counted with the participation of an outstanding group of specialists in these subjects.
Dr. Allida Black is Project Director and Editor of The Eleanor Roosevelt Papers, an initiative destined to preserve, teach and spread the writings and analysis that Eleanor Roosevelt realised in the matter of human rights and democratic policies, and Professor of History and of Public Policy and Public Administration at George Washington University.
As well, Dr. Black is member of the directory of the Institute Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, the Eleanor Roosevelt Legacy Foundation, and the Center “New Deal Studies.” Also she is secretary of the Gaea Foundation, and director of the “Liberian Education Trust,” a project destined to reconstruct the system of public education of Liberia, to offer rehabilitation to child soldiers, and to grant qualification on alphabetization and mathematics to enterprising women.
Finally, is interesting to indicate that Dr. Black worked during 17 years with Hillary Clinton, present Senator and next Secretary of State, in issues of social justice and human rights.
The meeting was developed in a pleasant way, with a great exchange of opinions and experiences around problems, challenges and opportunities (internal and external) that will afflict the next American president (Guantánamo, Iraq, Cuba, the situation of the women and children at international level, etc.).
